God’s Sons- Part I

For my brothas,

Young Prince- What is stopping you from submitting your life to God and obeying him?  Could it be:

  • Friends– may start to think you’re corny, boring, “church boy”
  • Girlfriend– may start to think you’re boring, she wants a “baller, wants the “party guy”
  • Family– you may want to rebel against them, they are “hypocrites” and you don’t want to be like them.
  • Money– you gotta “chase this paper”
  • Youth– You’re too young to be so serious. You have your whole life to “find God”

But I ask you- what if today ( this very hour) was your last? Are these the excuses you are prepared to stand before God and tell him as to why you ignored him?

Ecclesiastes 2:4-11

I also tried to find meaning by building huge homes for myself and by planting beautiful vineyards. I made gardens and parks, filling them with all kinds of fruit trees. I built reservoirs to collect the water to irrigate my many flourishing groves. I bought slaves, both men and women, and others were born into my household. I also owned large herds and flocks, more than any of the kings who had lived in Jerusalem before me. I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women, and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire!

So I became greater than all who had lived in Jerusalem before me, and my wisdom never failed me. 10 Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors. 11 But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.

All the women, money, houses, fame, education is worthless in comparison to God. You cannot take even one with you when you leave the earth. And even if you are remembered for a few years, what gain is it to you or even your family? I mean really, how many famous people you’ve heard of that have committed suicide?  Being “paid” or popular is not sufficient. We were made living beings by the very breath of God. NOTHING ELSE CAN EVER, WILL EVER satisfy us except for God!

Ecclesiastes 12: 1-7

Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” Remember him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky. Remember him before your legs—the guards of your house—start to tremble; and before your shoulders—the strong men—stoop. Remember him before your teeth—your few remaining servants—stop grinding; and before your eyes—the women looking through the windows—see dimly.

Remember him before the door to life’s opportunities is closed and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow faint.

Remember him before you become fearful of falling and worry about danger in the streets; before your hair turns white like an almond tree in bloom, and you drag along without energy like a dying grasshopper, and the caperberry no longer inspires sexual desire. Remember him before you near the grave, your everlasting home, when the mourners will weep at your funeral.

Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don’t wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well. For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Remember God, the Creator in your Youth. While you still have energy and zeal to serve him. While you can still worship with your voice, body, and actions. While you are still alive. There will come a time when you cannot do these things. It is foolish to think that you have years to find God. Again, how many people do you know or heard of that have died in their youth? Some younger than you or even your age.  Tomorrow is not promised to anyone! Tomorrow- growing old is a gift from God. Today, right now is your opportunity to decide to live- TRULY LIVE for God.

Ecclesiastes 11:9-10

Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do. 10 So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless.

God wants you to enjoy your life. This isn’t some dreadful purposeless journey ( Jeremiah 29:11). No! He wants you to live life abundantly ( John 10:10). Just fight to do what is right, because God still will ask you about what you did and why.
