As I sat in traffic this evening on my way home from work, it dawned on me. The devil “blesses” his followers too. I thought about my recent encounter with my past situationship. My ex used me and got me to purchase a used car for him, pay his tickets and restore his license, buy him things and food etc. I emptied out my savings for him in the span of a month and a half really. All the while distracting me from praying, truly worshiping God and walking in his purpose for my life. You see, his blessing was me blindly giving him things that he needs and desires. He did his part of keeping me from purity, righteousness and the presence of God. Tricky isn’t it!
I thought, well God, now that is so not fair! But God quickly revealed to me, 2 Corinthians 4:18:
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
So he got all of those things from you, but how is his soul? how is his heart? Those things will break down, go out of style etc. But when it matters, will God know him and hear his cries? There will always be a void that he will want to fill, a void that should and can only be filled by God. Those “blessings” from the enemy are temporary. God’s blessings are eternal and unique. God’s blessings are often things/people you never knew you needed or aspired to wanting.
You know, the thing I love about God’s blessings is that they almost always bless others as well. Many times the job you’re praying for, the spouse, the car etc can be used to help someone else and bless their lives. Your testimony helps strengthen the faith of another person. Another part of God’s blessings is that they are complete when given to you. You don’t have to keep going back to be able to maintain the blessing. It’s a complete package. So again, it comes down to a choice. Temporary things from the devil or eternal blessings from God?
Love Ya to Peace,
